Good Vibrations

Jennifer Essex (Dancer & Dancemaker)
Rebecca Ball (Good Vibrations)
Rheannon Davies (Good Vibrations)
Imagine living without memory. Or with a memory that’s not completely reliable. What does it mean to not be able to recall if you've seen someone before, or whether they are kind? To be less able to learn from previous experience, build relationships, make sense of the world, tell stories? Good Vibrations is a project of dance classes for people living with dementia. We'll examine the difficulties and pleasures of dancing with people who may struggle with language or memory.

The science and philosophy of 'Motion Disabled'

Simon McKeown (Artist)
Simon is an artist working directly with actors and athletes to capture motion, often with a focus on difference and disability. Body motions can provide almost a signature of the person, expressing individuality and difference. Animators know this in detail and work in fine detail to record and showcase movement, often using tools of motion capture. He will look at the history of animation and movement capture, state of the art methods, and future uses of technology in this area. He will also discuss reasons for using scientific tools, in a non-medical, non-scientific area.
