Anna has brought her knowledge and infectious enthusiasm for the human sciences to the TV screen in two seasons of Married at First Sight (Channel 4) and alongside Michael Moseley on Meet the Humans (BBC Earth). Tonight Anna will discuss what happens to a man as he becomes "Dad" - what happens in the brain and body of new fathers, and how genes and psychology influence what sort of father a man will be.

The Science of Fatherhood

Dr Anna Machin (Academic visitor at University of Oxford)
Human dads are special. But until very recently we knew very little about what happened to a man as he became a dad. Join dad specialist Anna Machin as she explains what happens to a man biologically, psychologically and behaviourally as he becomes a dad. She will explore hormonal and brain changes that prepare him to be a dad, detail how his genes and psychology influence what sort of father he will be, explain how becoming a dad can impact his health, and describe the fundamental attachment that develops between a father and his child.
