How can we use technology to be a better footballer? Or to build stronger muscles?  What are light fields? Grab your popcorn as we join Dario and Christian to get the scoop behind light, cameras, and action. The function room is on the 1st floor; we apologise there is no wheel-chair access.

To simulate, or not to simulate, that ain't the question!

How can we use computer simulations in sports & medicine? Nowadays we are able to create very accurate digital ‘copy’ of a human being and use them to answer questions that cannot be tackled by embracing an experimental approach: How do rugby players get injured during a scrum or a tackle? How would we walk on Mars? What if we had stronger muscles? Dario’s presentation will highlight how a computer simulation approach is becoming largely used to analyse human motion and identify preventive solutions both in clinical and sporting settings.

3D photography: from the Victorians to Virtual Reality

3D photography might at first seem like a rather modern achievement. However the basic technology was actually developed in the early Victorian era, and it enjoyed great popularity between the 1860s and the 1920s. Nowadays, 3D photography is seeing a resurgence of interest that is fuelled by recent advances in virtual reality. Join Christian
on this journey through time and find out how Victorian technology inspires today’s 3D videos.
