Have you ever had the ick; when love turns to disgust in a heartbeat?! In this event, Martin Graff and Edwin Dalmaijer will talk us through the neuroscience and psychology that underlies these compelling and mysterious emotions.

Psychology of love and attraction

Dr Martin Graff (Senior Lecturer)
Does online dating really work? Can you find true love on the Internet? How do people portray themselves online? This session will examine all these issues and will draw on current empirical studies on online dating and relationships.

This talk will also cover some of the major research work on the psychology of constructing an effective online dating profile and of online communication.
Finally, in this session Martin will also give some practical advice on how to construct a dating profile, including how to maximize our chances of success in online dating environments.

The science of disgust

Dr Edwin Dalmaijer (Lecturer (School of Psychological Science))
Why is poop so foul? How do ghastly odours make our stomach churn? Can you learn to overcome feelings of revulsion if you’re in a profession with lots of daily grime, or a parent to young children? Dr Edwin Dalmaijer from the University of Bristol will answer these questions in a talk on the surprisingly interesting science of disgust
