Managing climate change is critical to the future of mankind, and our very own Tees Valley is pioneering the way. Come find out about the opportunities, changes, successes and novel initiatives of the Teesside climate industry!
Exploring Public Perception: Hydrogen and Teesside’s Economic Growth
Dr Clair Cooper
(Just Transition Project - Teesside University)
To help industry across the Tees Valley Region, create opportunities for growth and employment, the region has been identified as a hub for hydrogen innovation, production, storage, use and transport. However, little is known about how people that live in the Tees Valley perceive hydrogen. This talk will share insights from a short study that tells us more about how people feel about the Tees Valley, how they perceive transition hydrogen economy and future research in societal acceptance of hydrogen.
Connecting Offshore Wind Electricity with Hydrogen
Dr Alessandro Giampieri
(Postdoctoral Research Associate - Durham University)
The integration of offshore wind electricity with hydrogen production has the potential to help move towards a net zero society. This talk will explore the main technical and economic aspects and discuss the feasibility and profitability of producing, transporting and storing hydrogen or hydrogen carriers using offshore wind electricity. What are the main challenges? How much can the price of offshore wind-to-hydrogen be reduced in the future?
Hydrogen: A Clean and Flexible Energy Carrier
Dr Mahdi Amanipour
(Assistant Professor - Durham University)
Hydrogen has the potential for use in transportation, commercial, industrial, residential, and portable sectors. Hydrogen can store and deliver usable energy, but it doesn't typically exist by itself in nature and must be produced from compounds that contain it. It can be produced from diverse, domestic resources. Currently, most hydrogen is produced from fossil fuels. In the longer term, solar and wind energy can be used more directly to generate hydrogen as new technologies make alternative production methods cost competitive.
