Join us on September 26th for Postdoc Appreciation Week as we celebrate our postdoctoral researchers and all they do! This event is kindly sponsored by Proteintech who will provide refreshments and goodies on the day! The Scottish Universities Life Sciences Alliance (SULSA) are delighted to team up with Pint of Science to help organise this event.

Flush it out: Sharing COVID data from Scotland’s wastewater
Dr Livia C. T. Scorza
(Postdoctoral Researcher)
Making datasets open and reusable are becoming the new standard in the researcher’s life, with several benefits for scientists and society. In this talk I will show how we curated and openly shared data from SARS-CoV-2 (novel coronavirus) levels in Scotland’s wastewater. Such data illustrate the COVID-19 spread throughout the population and contribute to provide viral reproduction (R) values, at the Scottish and UK levels.
Exploring the substrate selectivity of Arabidopsis thioredoxin h-type family in oxidative stress signalling
Dr Maiara Piovesana
(Postdoctoral Researcher)
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are highly reactive molecules that have the potential to cause extensive damage to living cells, whilst also functioning as key signalling molecules by modifying reactive cysteine residues in target proteins. Thioredoxins (TRXs), a group of proteins belonging to the oxidoreductase superfamily, protect cells against oxidative damage. By using transcriptomic and proteomic approaches, we are investigating the substrate selectivity of members of the Arabidopsis TRX h-type family.
