The Centre of Translational Medicine would like to welcome Pint of Science guests to The Bridge for a maternity themed event! The Bridge is a place that has been supporting women's health and wellbeing since it was formally set up in 1932 and we are delighted to be able to support their vision through this event. The Centre of Translational Medicine brings together King's College London and it's partner NHS sites to work together to improve the health of the community. Before Birth: Can We Spot Life-Threatening Gut Disease Early?

Some babies develop a serious gut condition after birth, often without warning. My research explores whether we can detect early signs during pregnancy using advanced MRI scans. By studying how the baby’s gut develops before birth-especially in high-risk pregnancies-we hope to identify those at risk earlier, plan care better, and improve outcomes for newborns and families.

Born too soon: the science of preterm birth

Around one in ten babies are born too soon, yet we still don’t fully understand why. In this talk, I’ll explore why being born early matters for long‑term health and how researchers are working to unravel the science of preterm birth both inside the lab and in real hospital settings.
