Perfectionism could be a dangerous cocktail. A few sips in early life could have long term effects. Having said that, the effects of alcohol on our brain and behaviour are still largely unknown. Tonight we will hear how and why perfectionism has become todays hidden epidemic. We will also hear how alcohol affects the way we behave and think! Come join us for an evening of thought provoking talks and discussion in the Bell Inn.

Intoxication to Hangover: Alcohol’s Brain and Behaviour Journey

Craig Gunn (PhD Student)
Dr Sally Adams (Assistant Professor)
Every hour someone in the UK dies from an alcohol-related death. However, the effects of alcohol on the way we think and behave are still not fully understood. In this talk we will explore the effects alcohol has on our brain and behaviour from alcohol passing our lips though the next day. Understanding how alcohol influences the way we think and behave can lead to the development of treatments that will help us to tackle barriers to reducing heavy and harmful drinking.

How perfectionism became today’s hidden epidemic

Dr Thomas Curran (Assistant Professor Department for Health)
Tom's area of expertise is the personality characteristic of perfectionism, how it develops, and how it impacts on mental health. Having published over 20 articles or book chapters on these or related issues, Tom's talk will present data collected over 26 years, showing how perfectionism has increased substantially over time among young people. Against a backdrop of elevated mental ill-health, this talk will explore how and why perfectionism became today's hidden epidemic.
