How do we keep up with the demand for energy to power our everyday lives whilst also reducing our impact on the climate? This burning question does not have a straightforward answer... but we are going to try!

Join Professor Jim Gilbert and the Energy and Environmental Institute @ Furleys & Co for a night on offshore wind energy and its actual potential to power the UK.

The role of offshore wind in meeting net zero targets

Jim Gilbert (Professor of Engineering )
Offshore wind has been widely promoted as a key technology for the UK to meet a large proportion of its energy needs and to address net zero targets but there are significant challenges still to overcome if this is to be achieved. These include issues around the available wind resource and what happens when the wind does not blow, the environmental impacts of large numbers of marine structures and the use of scarce resources in turbines and associated equipment.

Offshore Wind Game Show

Energy and Environmental Institute (Tackling environmental resilience and energy sustainability )
The climate is in crisis and we need to do our best to reach net-zero carbon emissions as soon as possible. Many things need to dramatically change in order to avert this climate crisis and the way we produce our energy is a big one. Offshore wind is said to be one solution to this problem, but how much do you actually know about it? Join a team of researchers from the Energy and Environmental Institute to discover more about the power of wind whilst also putting your own knowledge to the test!
