Join us for an evening of thought-provoking discussions: from what makes a cook book queer, to the impact new surveillance techniques have on protesters in the US, and how we can help people understand the risks when they give birth. Also not to be missed, our daring Shots of Science speakers will compete in a series of rapid-fire talks with the winner voted for by you!
This night is organised by CHASE - The Centre for Health, Art, Society and Environment.

Cooking with Pride!

Dr Ursula Kania (Senior Lecturer in English Language)
Queer cookbooks have been around at least since 'The Alice B. Toklas Cookbook' was published in 1954. 70 years later, there’s still an appetite for them, within and beyond the LGBTQIA+ community, as exemplified by the forthcoming 'Baking with Pride' by Great British Bake Off contestant Janusz Domagala. But what makes a cookbook queer? (Why) do we need queer cookbooks? And can pancakes be gay? Come along for an exploration of queer cookbooks and what they can tell us about queer communities, appetites, activism, and joy.

To make an informed decision about anything, we need as much information as possible. These risks can be presented in different ways, but one size does not fit all! So come and explore how we can ensure people get the information they need to make the right choice for them.
