COVID-19 – Back to the Future

Caitlin Greenland-Bews (PhD Student)
Dr Helen Savage (PhD Student)
Dr Susan Gould (PhD Student)
Have you ever wondered what happened to all the swabs, lateral flow tests and all those COVID-19 variants? Everyone is now an expert on COVID-19, but what can we do with all that knowledge? Here we will showcase how LSTM is using everything we learnt during the pandemic to help us fight diseases, from those as old as the mummies in Egypt to those still new and unknown, emerging around the world.

Can You Feel me Talking?

Dr Thomas Hampton (Ear Nose and Throat Surgical Registrar and Wellcome Trust Clinical PhD Student)
Do you use vibrating bone conduction headphones to listen to music and podcasts? In this talk we'll be exploring whether these can be used by people with hearing loss instead of the traditional hearing aids. Discover whether you can feel talking rather than hearing it!

The Next Pandemic – Are we Prepared?

Dr Ana Katrina Pitol Garcia (Postdoctoral Research Associate)
The Covid pandemic was not a ‘once in a lifetime’ event. The next outbreak of a pathogen with pandemic potential will inevitably come. In this talk, we will explore what we have learnt from the fight against the SARS-CoV-2 and how, by understanding the transmission of pathogens, we are getting ready for the next challenge.
