Environment and cancer
Mai Aljarrah
(Student, University of Bradford)
Join us for an exciting talk on Heme Oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and its role in disease modulation. Mai Aljarrah will talk about HO-1's antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, and how this protein present in our body can impact cancer progression and therapy. Learn about innovative approaches using nanotechnology and microneedles for precise, non-invasive drug delivery. This presentation will explore how these advanced tools can transform cancer and chronic disease management, bridging the gap between lab research and clinical applications.

Peel, poke, and go: the healthcare of the future
Dr Bana Shriky
(Post-doctoral Researcher, University of Bradford)
Although life-saving treatments are available, many people still cannot get them because they are expensive, unstable, or hard to transport and store. Microneedle patches could help solve these problems. They contain hundreds of tiny needles that create holes in the skin, allowing medicine to enter the body. The patches are easy for to use on your own—just peel, poke, and go! After delivering the medicine, the patches will dissolve, leaving behind only a small adhesive patch. This approach will make treatments more accessible, affordable, sustainable, and improve lives around the world.
