What does a sustainable future look like? Everyone talks about building a more sustainable future but what does this involve? Everyone wants it, but do they really know what this looks like? Too many questions to answer in one conversation and that is why we are making an evening out of it. Join us in Bath Brew House where two leading scientists will share their insights into what sustainability looks like. If sustainability is going to succeed its time to start talking about it!
Let the Earth Clean the Air: Building sustainably to overcome the unintended consequence of building sustainably.
Dr Dan Maskell
(Prize Fellow)
Reduction of air quality is associated with impacts on health and wellbeing. The focus is typically on outdoor air but on average people spend approximately 80% of their lives indoors, so maybe we should be more concerned about the quality of our indoor air. Modern methods of construction can lead to an uncomfortable and unhealthy indoors While there has been an increase in technological solutions that can monitor the quality of the air, and attempt to purify it, Dan will present a possible solution that has been under our feet all along.
A pint of photons - quantum light for new technologies
Dr Peter Mosley
(Senior Lecturer)
Dr Peter Mosley’s research expertise is in the area of nonlinear quantum optics. Specifically, he builds sources of single photons - individual particles of light - that exploit the unique capabilities of microstructured optical fibre fabricated at the University of Bath.
