Technology is playing an ever-increasingly prominent and important role in all of our lives. Join us as we delve into the world of technology and research, and answer terrifically technical questions such as how can better conversations between humans and computers help prevent plane crashes, and what's next in the world of batteries?
Making skies safer: enhancing communication between pilots and aircraft sensors
Chaaru Manjuraj Komala
(Master’s Student )
Join me for an enlightening talk on Human-Computer Interaction in next-gen aircrafts, as I tackle the urgent need to improve pilot comprehension. With 80% of air crashes due to human error and over 65% of those caused by pilots misinterpreting on-board sensor data, it's vital to enhance communication for safer skies. I'll share captivating case studies and propose innovative solutions to boost interaction between pilots and on-board sensors, paving the way for a safer future in air travel.
Powering the next generation: the past, present, and future of batteries
Dan Butler
(PhD Researcher)
Jaime-Marie Price
(PhD Researcher)
For generations, humans have produced and stored energy to advance civilisation. In the 21st century the demand for energy is larger than ever and finding new ways of storing that energy is vital. Batteries are surprisingly simple devices and while current technologies are effective in small devices, scaling them up for use in grid storage and electric vehicles is an ongoing challenge. In this talk, we will explain how we got to this stage and where we can go from here, discussing the full lifecycle of a battery from mining to recycling and examining a range of current and future technologies.
