The Phenomenon of Migration: a journey across continents
Charlie Russell
(PhD Candidate, University of East Anglia)
Every year, millions of birds across the world take to the skies in one of nature’s most extraordinary events: migration. From tiny songbirds all the way to eagles, these animals make vast journeys across continents they may never have seen before to find a safe place to winter. They are among the fastest declining groups worldwide, and their conservation is extremely difficult. So why do they migrate? How is this changing world impacting them? What can we do help them? Using GPS devices, we have started to uncover some of the mysteries of migration and how to protect these amazing birds.
