Tonight two extraordinary speakers from Queen Mary University of London, Prof. Sandler and Prof. Healey, will take us on a journey into the world of digitalism starting with music and culminating in the intricate science of human interactions. During the event there will be Pint of Science T shirts to be won!

The Science of Music
Professor Mark Sandler
(Professor of Signal Processing)
Music is present in almost every person’s life. Most of us can relate specific moments to specific sounds but how can that relation be analysed and more importantly, be moulded to our mood and needs? Digital signal processing is a powerful tool, especially when applied to audio and music, as it can help on their analysis. Our group uses it as a way of bringing new insights on dynamic music, interactive audio and mood-driven music player, transforming previous interactive objects into adaptive ones. During this evening, we will talk about the journey of sounds and more.
Augmented Human Interaction
Professor Pat Healey
(Professor of Human Interaction)
Digital technologies provide uniquely flexible media with the potential to transform human communication. They offer new ways to capture, modify and project communicative actions (e.g., words, gestures and expressions). This creates the potential for richer, more expressive new forms of human communication. My research applies models of human communication - drawn mainly from Psychology and Sociology - to understanding these processes.
