This night is for anyone who feels they didn’t learn anything in sex ed class. We’ll consider the barriers to inclusive and relevant sexual education still present in now-mandatory school courses, and imagine a more hopeful future through research and illustration. You’ll have a chance to discuss your experiences while you decorate a special edition Pint of Science x everybodys_invited tote bag.

This event costs £10 per ticket, this includes £5 to cover the cost of a tote bag for you to keep.

Phoebe Holden (Creative (illustrator))
I’m Phoebe, a freelance illustrator and RSHE (Relationships and Sexual Health Education) advocator! I created the page @everybodys_invited, which focuses on discussing RSHE topics that are often not covered in school. I’ll be exploring how sex education can be taught in a more open, inclusive and engaging way, reflecting on the pitfalls of sex-ed in schools and past experiences, the benefits of an improved sex education, as well as the joys of illustration and how it can be utilised to teach topics from the basics to the taboo.

The Future of Sex Ed: hopeful Queer imaginings

Sophie Collins (Relationships & Sex Education practitioner)
Hi, I'm Sophie. I'm a Relationships & Sex Education practitioner, facilitating RSE sessions in Manchester schools since 2017. I am also a researcher, having recently completed my Masters in Education & Social Justice at Lancaster University. I'm interested in where practice and theory meet in RSE, and especially in the views of the experienced RSE workforce, whose hard work to provide impactful and meaningful RSE is often overlooked in research. Their views on creating inclusive, high-quality RSE is key to imagining a hopeful future for the practice, which is the focus of my talk.
