Tonight we are honouring the incredible generosity of those who volunteer. From a fascinating behind the scenes look at the process of donating your body to medical science, to finding out what makes people volunteer in the first place.

Doors open at 7pm for a 7:30 start for a night of intrigue, entertainment, prizes and so much more.

The Selfish Volunteer

Jennifer Few (Volunteering Development Officer)
Nobody has time to volunteer anymore, right? Well in 2016 one quarter of UK adults did! Who and where are these people, what are they doing and why do they still give up their time to volunteer? Are they all saintly do-gooders with nothing better to do or perhaps they know something the rest of us don’t? Come on a journey to find out why volunteering is never selfless and how being selfish can have amazing, life-changing impacts for volunteers, organisations, and society as a whole.

What happens after you donate your body for medical education? (and why it's so important to donate!)

Zivarna Murphy (PhD Student)
In the UK, people can choose to donate their bodies after death for medical teaching and research. These body donors (and their families) play a very special role in training doctors and surgeons. If you would like to know more about the process of body donation and what will happen after you donate your body this talk is for you! Zivarna will take you behind the scenes and discuss the extraordinary work that Anatomy Unit Staff do to ensure the smooth running of this process.
