Join us as we explore two fundamental mysteries of the cosmos: the puzzling imbalance between matter and antimatter, and the transformative Epoch of Reionization. Discover how the origins of the Universe's matter asymmetry connect to our understanding of particle physics, and how the James Webb Space Telescope is unveiling the first galaxies that ignited the cosmic dawn, reshaping our understanding of the early Universe.

Peering into the cosmic dawn: Unlocking the Secrets of the Epoch of Reionization with JWST

Dr Ryan Begley (Post Doctoral Reseacher)
Billions of years ago, the early universe was a dark and mysterious place, filled with a cosmic fog of neutral hydrogen. Then, the first stars and galaxies ignited, transforming the universe in a dramatic event called the Epoch of Reionization. But how did this happen, and what role did early galaxies play? Thanks to the revolutionary power of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), we are now uncovering clues about this crucial period in cosmic history. Join me as we explore how JWST is rewriting our understanding of the first galaxies, their light, and their impact on the universe!

The puzzling matter asymmetry of the Universe and the search for new particles

Nils Hermansson Truedsson (Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellow, The University of Edinburgh)
If we look out into the Universe we observe an extreme asymmetry between the amounts of ordinary matter we are comprised of and antimatter. It is reasonable to believe the Universe was created with equal amounts of the two, so the origin of the asymmetry must be understood from fundamental particle physics. I will talk about how the puzzling asymmetry is connected to particle physics, why it cannot be explained currently and how me might search for clues of what is missing.
