Into the Shadow

Dr. Angela Gallo (Lecturer in Finance at Cass Business School)
An increasing attention has been devoted in the last few years to leak transactions and operations undertaken in the shadow, i.e. outside of the regular economic and financial system. Still little is known, and much less understood, but especially in the financial world it is now acknowledge that the shadow banking system played an important role in the unfolding of the 2007-2008 crisis. Before anything else, it was in the shadow that things started to go wrong. My research investigates the dynamics in the shadow banking system in that period and track down the role of the traditional banks in it.

Who owns the firms?

Dr Francisco Urzúa I. (Assistant professor in Finance at Cass Business School)
Whether it’s a family, a hedge fund or many small shareholders, who owns firms matters tremendously for the economy, employees, consumers and society as a whole. Do we see significant differences in how are firms owned? Are these differences relevant for firms’ innovation, profitability and survival? What are the difficulties in answering these questions?
Curious about it? Come and enjoy a pint with me!
