Storage Unwrapped: The humble potato

Dr Claudia Carvalho (Research Fellow in Potato Postharvest Physiology)
Dr Carvalho will talk about the importance of crop storage, providing a case study of that great British staple, the potato. The talk will include a discussion on the do’s and the don’ts of post harvest storage, its importance for food security and how it effects your wallet!

Waste Unwrapped: The plastic food fight

Dr Lorraine Fisher (Researcher in Postharvest Physiology and Enterprise Development Fellow)
Public pressure has led to the food industry, responsible for most single-use plastic pollution, to pledge to reduce virgin plastic packaging and potentially switch to alternative packaging. Will this response have an impact on land litter and ocean pollution, or could a knee jerk reaction potentially result in a food waste problem which exacerbates climate change? Dr Fisher will discuss the pros and cons of fresh produce food packaging, the options and the alternatives available .
