Ditch the Tea Leaves, Brew AI! Predicting Response to Breast Cancer Treatments

Dr Stephen John Sammut (Group Leader, Institute of Cancer Research and Consultant Medical Oncologist)
Forget crystal balls, it's time for AI! In this talk, we'll explore how we're using AI to analyse the genetic code of individual breast cancer cells and identify their weaknesses. We'll also see how AI can analyse how these cancer cells team up with other cells in the body to avoid detection by the immune system. By understanding these weaknesses and partnerships, AI is allowing us to develop tools to predict which treatments may be more effective for each patient. Join us to learn how the work we are doing will allow us to brew a future where everyone with breast cancer gets the personalised treatment they need.

Skynet Redeemed: A New Role for AI in the Fight Against Prostate Cancer

Dr Bora Gurel (Clinician Scientist, Institute of Cancer Research)
You might imagine a robot apocalypse where machines will take over. I see an alternative world of tech – and I don’t need to imagine it, it’s already reality. We’ve enlisted AI in the battle against prostate cancer, to unlock the secrets of how the immune system and cancer cells interact.
Our high-tech ally sifts through cellular chaos to find patterns and answers that can lead to new treatments. Join me for a pint as we explore how technology could be humanity's sidekick in turning the tide against one of the biggest health challenges men face today.
