Say hello to a zero carbon future
Anca Covaci
(Entomologist)
What is carbon literacy? What are those small changes that we can makes, as individuals or community in order to reduce the CO2 production? Can the children have their own contribution? Brainstorming on these ideas will inspire each other not only to be think out of the box but also to help us adopt more sustainable living ways.
Anca is an Insect Chemical Ecologist passionate about Sustainable Strategies.

Giving up the Gas: What's it really like to switch to renewables at home?
Laura Hibberts
(Microbiologist)
Two years ago, I took the leap and invested in solar panels, an air source heat-pump and an electric car. When I tell people what I have done, many of them are quite strongly opposed to these technologies. Let me tell you what it has been like for real, ask your questions and then make up your own mind.
Laura is a lecturer in biology at Keele University with a wide-ranging background in in biological sciences. From her studies she believes all populations have to live sustainably to survive and that humans are no exception.

What is at stake? AI, gambling, and risks for girls
Fabiana Anselmo
(Computer Scientist)
Curious about how online gambling and betting are entering the digital lives of young women? Come join me at Pint of Science, where I will be sharing new insights from my research comparing the UK and Brazil.
I will explore how AI driven marketing, online games, influencers, and fast growing betting platforms are targeting young women aged 18–21 — and what this means for digital wellbeing, safety, and regulation. If you are interested in tech, culture, online behaviour, or just love learning something new over a pint, this talk is for you! Come along, bring your questions, and let’s untangle the future of gambling in a digital world — together.
Fabi is a multidisciplinary researcher with a background in Law, Social Anthropology, and Computer Science. She is currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Nottingham and collaborates with Stripe Partners, a London based consultancy. This partnership is supported by the ESRC Digital Good Network, a University of Sheffield initiative that fosters meaningful collaborations between academia and industry to help shape a more equitable and sustainable digital future.

Can you grow a realistic brain in a dish for medical testing?
Chris Adams
(Neuroscientist)
Diseases and injuries to the brain are debilitating and research is ongoing to develop new treatments. But how do scientists replicate the brain in their labs to conduct this research? In this talk I will examine different techniques to model the brain and associated injuries/diseases. We will explore stem cells, tissue samples and 3D growth techniques, looking at the pros and cons of each.
Chris Adams is a Senior Lecturer in Neuroscience in Keele University. He researches new technologies for fixing the brain and new methods to replicate the brain in the lab for therapeutic testing.

Tatooine and other weird worlds
Ayush Moharana
(Research astronomer)
Luke Skywalker's home planet is iconic as it has two Suns. One can find such planets in the real world. In fact, there are even weirder systems out in space. This talk will take you on a spaceship ride to show you how astronomers discover these systems.
Ayush is an astronomer working as a research associate at Keele University. He comes from Odisha in India, where he was observing single stars. He moved to Torun in Poland for his PhD, where he worked on triple stars before landing in Keele to work on binary stars. He is also involved in the Multiple Star Working Group of ESA's PLATO mission, which will look for Earth-like planets and also more binary stars.
