Dr Ian Davies
(Senior Lecturer )
Toni Blackham
(Postgraduate Researcher)
Our data shows takeaway food is energy dense, and can be high in saturated and trans fats, sugar and salt, while others report a have poor micronutrient profile. We have also shown approximately 1/4 of the Merseyside population consume takeaway meals once or twice per week. At this level of intake research shows a link with obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Our presentation will highlight this evidence especially in light of risk regarding heart disease. We will also show how takeaway food can be reformulated with respect to salt and fat without impacting on taste.
