The invisible, illusional, and lost being revealed, unpicked and found. Delve into the secret worlds of the microscopic, the mind's eye and crime scenes and how they shape today's society. Participate in activities led by artists Amy Lou ("Drawing and mark making") and Siobhan Mcaleer ("How we see colour") to explore how we express our visual perceptions of the world around us.

The fantastic world of 2D materials

Dr Juliana Morbec (Lecturer in Physics, Keele University)
In this event, Dr Juliana Morbec will take you on a journey to explore the world of two-dimensional materials, this class of very thin materials that has been showing huge promise for a variety of technological applications. They will discuss what makes such materials so attractive and how these materials can revolutionise the development of future technological devices.

Understanding perceptual illusions: #TheDress and more

Dr Joseph Brooks (Senior Lecturer in Psychology & Dean of Research, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Keele University)
In 2015, an image of #TheDress broke the internet. Some people perceived the image as depicting a black and blue dress whereas others clearly saw a white and gold dress (or some other colour combination)? This example and other visual illusions are interesting to many because they show that sometimes our eyes may fool us. In this talk, I will explain why such illusions seem to happen and how they help us to better understand the workings of the mind.

Review of water search – the Nicola Bulley case

Dr Jamie Pringle (Reader in Forensic Geoscience, Keele University)
This interactive talk will briefly cover the surprisingly common water forensic searches, the challenges typically encountered and existing technologies used for civil, environmental and criminal investigations. It will also cover recent UK high profile missing person cases in water.
