You are what you eat: Diet, Genes and Obesity!

Dr Vimal Karani (Lecturer in Nutrigenetics)
Individuals differ from each other in their genetic makeup due to which individuals respond differently to various lifestyle factors such as diet and physical activity. These genetic differences are the key enabler of the emerging nutrigenetics area of research. Obesity is a heritable trait that arises from the interactions between multiple genes and lifestyle factors. Nutrigenetics serves as a novel tool for nutritional research and helps in mitigating the burden of obesity in humans. The talk will highlight the need for doing nutrigenetic studies and their role in personalised nutrition.
