Bacteria is all around us on us and in us, but how much do we really know about it?
Together we will discover what role our Microbiome plays in health and bacteria in disease. Listen to clinical cases by our superstar speakers who will blow your mind and answer your burning questions!

Making the Invisible Visible!
Phillipa Burns
(Consultant Clinical Scientist, Scarborough Hull York Pathology Services (SHYPS) )
In our bodies there are more bacterial cells than human cells, we are a walking, talking ecosystem! We will explore the good bacteria and how our Microbiome helps us fight infection and heal. But what happens when bugs go bad? How are superbugs made and how can we control them? Have we reached the antimicrobial apocalypse or is science able to provide new ways of managing infection?
Diagnosing and treating the invisible at the frontline
Gavin Barlow
(Professor in Infection at University of York)
Diagnosing infection clinically at the bedside is surprisingly difficult as many symptoms and signs are non-specific, even across infecting organisms that are very different, such as viruses and protozoa!
Because of polypharmacy and the high prevalence of ill health in our population, infections are increasingly difficult to treat within the context of ever-increasing resistance to medicines we have taken for granted for decades.
Please join us to chat about these challenges and more, including a peek inside the world of frontline clinical infection practice and a chance to hear about real life cases with a Professor of Infection and honorary Consultant in Infectious Diseases.
