The “Enhanced Games”: Super humans, or super risky?
Dr Shaun Sutehall
(Project Officer, Centre for Applied Pharmacokinetic Research, University of Manchester - Postdoctoral Researcher, Research Institute for Sport and Exercise Sciences, Liverpool John Moores University)
On 24 May 2026, the Enhanced Games, a multi-sport event where doping is encouraged takes place. Marketed as a celebration of superhuman performance, the Games promise fairer competition, better pay for athletes, and world‑class medical support.
It sounds revolutionary… but is it the future of sport?
Scientists, athletes and anti‑doping regulators have raised concerns about the risks to athlete health and the wider consequences for sport.
Join Shaun as he unpacks the science behind doping, the dangers of enhancement, and what the sporting world might look like after the Enhanced Games.

“Skinny jabs”: hype, harm and social media
Dr Kathleen Cain
(Technical Specialist for Proteomics, School of Chemistry, University of Manchester, Manchester, UK. )
TikTok and other social media platforms are increasingly used to sell illegal and dangerous “skinny jabs,” promoted as cheap alternatives to prescription weight loss medicines like Wegovy, Ozempic and Mounjaro. Sellers use fake clinical settings and testimonials to appear credible. Our lab analysis shows many injections are counterfeit, contaminated or wrongly dosed. Some sold as Mounjaro contained semaglutide at unsafe levels. These unregulated products pose serious health risks and demand stronger enforcement and public awareness.
From Nature to the clinic: The science of self-assembling hydrogels
Prof. Aline Miller
(Associate Vice President (Enterprise) )
Discover how nature’s secrets inspire groundbreaking materials that could transform healthcare. Drawing inspiration from nature’s remarkable ability to perfect self-assembly over millennia, Professor Aline Miller and her team are mimicking natural self-assembly and directing its evolution to create smart hydrogels that help grow cells, deliver medicines, and even repair damaged tissues - offering hope for heart disease, nerve regeneration, endometriosis and more. Join us to hear how the team are bringing these innovations from the lab to everyday life!
