At this event we'll be hearing from experts on metabolism about how your body processes food and what impact these processes can have on our everyday lives but particularly on our mental health. Hopefully we'll manage to find some healthy bar snacks for the occasion!

Energy and depression: how the brain regulates our metabolism

Hugo Fleming (Postdoctoral researcher in the Mental Health Neuroscience group at the University of Cambridge)
Most people consider depression a mental health condition, primarily involving low mood. This is only part of the picture, however – depression has an array of physical symptoms too, including appetite, weight and sleep changes. In this talk Hugo will be sharing the cutting edge research that suggests that metabolism – how we regulate our energy levels – may unify the mental and physical symptoms of depression, and has significant effects on our cognition more generally.
