Your body is essentially a walking home for trillions of bacteria. Did you know that? And what if we were to tell you that your gut bugs also dictate what you are feeling and how you behave? Come along if you want to know who are your trillions bosses and the latest technologies (metagenomics) to identify them.

You are mainly microbe…Meet your gut bacteria!

Dr Adele Costabile (Reader)
The human body teems with microbes and your body is essencially a walking home for trillions of bacteria. Incredibly our precise bacterial mix is unique - like fingerprints, no two people's combinations of gut bacteria are exactly the same. Now it is clear that gut bacteria - known as the microbiome – can cause many health problems. Today I will talk to you about the microbiome and I will reveal all secrets about how bacteria affect your health.

Metagenomic sequencing - the future is here!

Taichi Ochi (Regional Account Manager | NGS Consultant)
Metagenomics is the study of genetic material recovered directly from environmental samples. This talk will focus on the current applications of metagenomics and the potential it holds in the healthcare and industry.

Through my work at Macrogen, a Next Generation Sequencing provider, we have noticed the increasing number of metagenomic sequencing projects over the past few years. With this growing trend and the developing technologies in sequencing, we note the positive effect it has on the research applications.
