I'm a PhD student attempting to detect exoplanets orbiting nearby stars by taking photos of said stars. So far I've been very successful at finding background stars that look a bit like planets, and very unsuccessful at actually finding planets.
I am a second year astrophysics PhD student investigating how brown dwarf atmospheres evolve as they cool down over their lifetime. It’s my first time being involved with pint of science, and I’m looking forward to combining my two favourite things - science and beer!
I’m a first year PhD student studying planet formation in protoplanetary disks using interferometry at some of there largest telescope arrays in the world. I love to hike, climb and swim along with all things science.
I am a second year PhD student, studying changes in synapses in a model of Alzheimer’s disease. Outside of the lab, I enjoy playing field hockey and exploring the world around me.
I’m a first year PhD student, investigating security tags and using metamaterials to improve them. When I’m not in the lab (or staring at a computer), I’m probably trying to knit myself a pair of gloves, and knitting many hand warmers in the process.
Atoms to Galaxies
I am a fourth year PhD student experimentally and theoretically studying acoustic metamaterials. My research has the aim of manipulating sound amplitude using structured surfaces. Outside of the lab and office I enjoy cooking, hiking, running and athletics.
I’m a first year PhD student studying aggressive behaviour. In my research I am focusing on bystander approach to violence prevention. When I’m not in the office, I’m probably travelling, painting, or riding a horse.
Dr. Lori Borgal
I am a Royal Society Newton International Fellow hosted by the University of Exeter. I use fruit flies to study how stem cells divide. I enjoy running and weekend adventures with my family and can occasionally be found with a pint talking science after work… perfect combination!
I’m a final year Psychology PhD student working on sexual harassment. I’m passionate about communicating research beyond academia, which is why I’m excited to be part of Pint of Science! When I’m not in the office I can be found in the gym, baking or attempting a pub quiz.
