3rd year PhD, so the concept of being a “normal human” is now relative. I start hobbies I never finish, talk with my hands, and am slightly too fond of coffee, whiskey and late nights. And half of this is ripped straight from my tinder profile.
2nd year PhD researcher in Brewing and Sensory science. I am literally doing a Pint of Science, so I am glad to be a part of the Nottingham team. When not ‘researching’ in the pub, I enjoy drinking other alcoholic beverages and baking!
I am currently doing a PhD in Chemistry. Living organisms can often make chemicals that are very difficult to make using traditional chemistry. So, I grow bacteria to see if we can get them to make those chemicals for us.
Second year PhD student studying neurodegeneration and the communication between different types of brain cells. I’m excited to engage people about all the wonderful aspects of the brain and I’m passionate about recovering from work at the pub!

As a second-year undergrad, I’m a biochemist in the making! Slightly too excited spending my nights at home under a blanket with a book and a hot cuppa tea. What can I say, I’m an old lady at heart!
Neurobiology and Genetics PhD student, which means I play with fruit flies all day. Avid craft beer drinker and eater of all the food. Launching another exciting outreach event in Nottingham this year, Bright Club, find us @BrightClubNTTM on Twitter!
Atoms to Galaxies
First year PhD student in the area of Mathematical Medicine and Biology. I study the mathematical modelling of metabolic pathways and cell-cell interactions. Excited to be part of PoS 2018 and engaging with the public about science.
2nd year Materials Engineering PhD student. Not really sure how I got here. When not being confused by large machinery my research also includes being confused by human cells and bacteria. Can't wait for PoS!
Asta Arendt Tranholm
1st year PhD in the School of Pharmacy with an undergrad in neuroscience. Really excited to be part of the creative reactions team for PoS 2018!
Atoms to Galaxies
4th year Undergrad Neuroscience student. Still find it weird that during these past few years my brain has been learning about itself... Excited to be part of bringing the world of science to the public this year!
Final year PhD student investigating the effect of CO2 on polymers. Playing a variety of sport and enjoying the odd tipple of gin is keeping me sane during thesis writing. Looking forward to maintaining my enthusiasm for science through PoS 2018.
I’m a first year PhD student, excited to talk science in the pub. When I’m not in the lab I’m probably sewing something, or riding my bicycle!
Tech Me Out
Second year PhD student doing a project in Molecular Pharmacology and Drug Discovery. Notable interests include Microsoft PowerPoint (seriously), Brooklyn beer and almost every type of food.
