Mix molecules with malts—Pint of Science is back! Join us for a taster of Pint of Science 2026 with two trail-blazing researchers. From questioning the intelligence of AI to unlocking nature’s chemistry, expect mind-blowing talks followed by a mini pub quiz. Grab a ticket, grab a pint, and give your brain a night out!

The Limits of AI

Jonathan Kirby (Associate Professor of Mathematics, UEA)
Can AI do anything a human can? Could it soon do everything? And can a machine ever be truly creative?

Nature's Chemists: The Plant Medicine Toolbox

Rebecca Casson (Postdoctoral Researcher, John Innes Centre)
Natural products (the commonly occurring chemicals made by living things to communicate and defend themselves) have been used by humans in food and medicine for millennia, with an entire branch of chemistry devoted to their study. However, their low abundance in often endangered natural sources and the difficulty in their artificial production limits their usefulness as new drugs. Follow us on this journey through the work of the Osbourn lab at the John Innes Centre to decode and reconstruct plant natural product biosynthesis, allowing us to unlock the true potential of “nature’s chemists”!
