How to Make the Milky Way

Observations of galaxies are at the heart of our understanding of the cosmos. Our galaxy - the Milky Way - has a complicated past. Prof Claudia Maraston will go into detail describing the physics of galaxy formation in the context of our home galaxy, explaining many of the complicated processes that take place.

Galaxies in Motion

It’s astonishing that the era of advanced computing makes it possible to simulate such extremely complicated, dynamical objects such as disk galaxies. Dr Kyle Westfall will show not only how this can be done, but also describe what the future holds in store for those able to compute.
