Discover the Secret Life of a Weather Datum

Paula Goodale (Teaching Associate)
Weather and climate science uses vast quantities of data gathered every minute of the day from locations across the globe, including right here in Sheffield at Weston Park. Come with us on a journey to discover how that data is produced, which organisations and systems it travels through, and how it is used to help scientists understand and predict the changing climate. Meet those involved and discover how you can contribute to this important area of scientific research by rescuing data from historical shipping records, or by producing and sharing your own data via a simple weather station.

Why do we need Energy Storage in Buildings?

Andreas Georgakarakos (PhD Researcher)
Energy Storage has been recognised by the UK Government as one of the most important new technologies towards sustainability. Using storage systems like batteries, energy can be stored at times of low consumption and used later, during peak demand. The benefits of storage when combined with renewable energy sources, such as photovoltaics, can increase energy independence and at the same time relieve the grid from increasing pressure. This talk will explore the possibilities and constraints for the deployment of energy storage in buildings.
