Automating Agriculture: robots to the rescue?

James Lambert (PhD Student)
We need more food, we have less land and fewer farmers. We have a changing climate, making farming practices less predictable. What can we do? There have been huge advancements in robots that are built for the farm, to help increase the productivity of an individual farmer. I will walk you through the major ones as well as provide hands on experience with a drone!

Feeding The World With Big Seeds

James Thackery (PhD Student)
Seeds make up a huge portion of the world's diet (e.g. wheat, rice, corn). We’ve gotten very good at growing these plants, but the world is still hungry, so we need more seeds! One way to do this is to make the seeds bigger, but how can we do this? I’ll go through the traditional and historical ways humans have made crops with bigger seeds and also discuss how we can use genetic modification to make this process faster and better!
