Journey through the human body from our heads all the way down to our toes! Our bodies are constantly sensing the world around us, driving how we move, think, and adapt. Join our scientists as we explore some big questions: What can research from across the world tell us about how healthy feet work? What ground breaking advances in our understanding & treatment of rare eye diseases are happening right here in Liverpool? And what unexpected connections exist between our kidneys and our brains?!
From eyes to feet to brain, discover the remarkable science that makes you, you.

Your Feet are Amazing!

Dr Kris D'Aout (Senior Lecturer in Biomechanics)
We may take our feet for granted, but as we age, many of us start to experience how important they are. As our only connection to the ground, feet are essential to propel us. But feet are also sensing organs which, like our vision, help keep us stable. With 26 bones, the foot is incredibly complex. Our work combines research here in Liverpool, as well as India and Namibia, to better understand how healthy feet work - an essential step toward understanding foot problems and how they differ.

Fighting a Rare Eye Cancer

Eye cancer is rare, but for about half of patients, it can spread from the eye to the liver and become life-threatening. In Liverpool, one of only three specialist centres in England brings together expert doctors and researchers to treat patients and search for better therapies. This talk breaks down what eye cancer is, how it’s treated today, and the cutting-edge research uncovering what may drive its spread, opening the door to new, life-saving treatments.

Brains and Kidneys Working Together

Dr David O'Hagan (GP and PhD student)
How do your brain and kidneys work together to keep your body in balance and what happens when that balance is disrupted?
Join us at Pint of Science to explore the surprising connection between these two vital organs. We’ll uncover how problems in one can affect the other, and dive into an intriguing question: could treating kidney issues actually benefit the brain, and even help reduce the risk of dementia?
