Join us on a whistle stop tour through space and time! Our planet hosts some crazy creatures living in some of the most extreme places, let's dive in and discover what novel microbial life thrives in then arctic ocean. Then warm up by the edge of a volcanoe to uncover what life could look like beyond the stars, with interactive games and activities to guide us on our journey!
Diving into the Arctic Ocean: Finding new microbes
Maiken Skov
(PhD student)
The Arctic Ocean is considered uninhabitable by many, however, modern technologies frequently reveal new species of microbes living in the dark, cold and harsh environment. Recently, the largest Arctic research expedition took place, allowing extensive research into the Arctic gene pool and the seasonal dynamics of the ecosystem at macro and micro scale. But how do the researchers identify the thousands of microbes that cannot grow in the lab? And would you be able to reconstruct a genome?
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Life in the Universe
Vito Latorre
(PhD student)
"The answer might be 42 — but what’s the question?
For thousands of years, we’ve looked at the night sky and wondered: are we alone? But maybe the deeper mystery is how life begins at all. From the limits of the universe to Saturn’s icy moons, from Earth’s most extreme environments to the first forms of life, we’ll explore how energy and chemistry shape living systems, and how they could answer to the question. Through a live interactive game, you’ll see the course of evolution, and how a single choice can change the fate of a species."
