Lighting the Way to Portable Sensing

Dr Lynn Dennany (Reader in Chemistry)
Lynn's group develops and enhances novel materials in sensors to detect disease and/or specific biomarkers and supports subsequent treatment through innovative drug delivery strategies. She will explore some of the new approaches her group is using based on specific properties of different targets to enhance detection of disease.

Lunar dust: Mankind's greatest challenge for occupying the Moon!

Dr Hossein Zare-Behtash (Assistant Professor)
There is an ever-growing interest to establish permanent habitats in the Moon and exploring the possibility of crewed missions to Mars. Successful exploration missions to the Moon are dependent on the design of vehicles that can sustain the extreme conditions of the Lunar environment. Among the many challenges involved during the final descent of landers is the presence of dust! In my talk I will share with you why Lunar dust is such a big problem, and what we are doing to help the future missions to the Moon and Mars.

Seeing Beneath The Skin

Dr Akhil Kallepalli (Leverhulme Early Career Fellow, University of Glasgow)
Imagine we could know everything there is to know from blood. Without a needle. Using light. Hard to imagine? That’s exactly what we are interested in – how can look at blood vessels and blood in a non-contact manner.
