The High Life: Microbes of the Stratosphere

Tareq Omairi (PhD Student)
How did the first cell arise? Was it created here on earth or was brought from somewhere else? How do we know if life is a cosmic phenomenon and not just limited to our planet? And if life did in fact exist everywhere in the universe, and did come to Earth from the cosmos, can it happen again? Might it be still happening? In this talk, I will explain the work our team is doing, in which we launch special balloons 40 kilometres up into our atmosphere, to try and capture stratospheric life-forms, and answer one of life’s biggest mysteries.
