Board games connect us physically through the rituals of play. They also offer us a chance to learn, experience and have agency of things we’re familiar with but through a different perspective, or new things all together. I am an analogue games designer and researcher. I use analogue games and the experience of play as a vehicle for discussing complex issues or topics. I have been making and studying games for the last two years and have recently began consulting scientists on game design in the name of science communication. I’ve been playing games for much longer… much, much longer!

Jason will talk about the need, complexities and challenges in preserving videogames. There's more to it than you might think! The museum holds a unique collection of videogames dating back to the 1970s. This includes original source code, development documentation, marketing, interviews and hardware from some of the pioneers of the videogame industry and the consumers. To understand the complete story, future generations will need the code, artwork, packaging, hardware - and an insight into the creators, the consumers, and the world in which they lived...
