Health researchers are increasingly obtaining data from smart phones and GPS devises. In this talk Jon will describe how researchers are using this data and how this can be used to make our cities healthier places to live. He will demonstrate how these massive datasets are translated using state of the art research methods into real world policy impact for alcohol, tobacco and physical activity . Dr Jon Olsen is a researcher at the MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit, University Of Glasgow.

Public health: Preventing Costs and the Cost of Prevention

Prof. Emma McIntosh (Professor of Health Economics, University of Glasgow)
Emma is an academic health economist with over 20 years’ experience in applied and methodological health economics. Emma is Deputy Director of the Health Economics and Health Technology Assessment Team at the University of Glasgow and Director of a National Institute for Health Research Global Health Research Group on Arthritis. Emma is a board member of the NIHR PHR funding panel and Glasgow Centre for Population Health. Over the last 20 years Emma has published around 80 peer reviewed papers.
