Our world is changing at a fast pace causing uncertainty for the future of our planet. However, scientists are working on sustainable solutions to problems such as climate change. Come and learn how local scientists are investigating how digitalisation can help tackle climate change and how what we eat can reduce our carbon footprint.
Can consumption help tackle climate change?
Charlie Wilson
(Reader in Energy & Climate Change at the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research )
Digitalisation is opening up new ways of getting around, using consumer goods, managing the home, and generating energy. Can these new consumer goods and services also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions? Charlie Wilson will discuss new data and insights on the potential for consumer-led transformation to dramatically reduce emissions in line with the global Paris Agreement on Climate Change.
Food & Sustainability - a tough nut to crack?
Mark Wilson
(Postgraduate Researcher at the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research )
How can we as consumers reduce our impact on the environment? In this talk, Mark Wilson will discuss food innovations which combine private benefits for consumers with the societal benefit of reducing environmental harm. These innovations offer distinctive value propositions to consumers, enabling them to reduce food waste, switch to a low carbon diet, or buy locally-produced food. These innovations are one of several approaches which aim to create a sustainable food system.
