Sun, CO2 and Seaweed – Future or Flop?

Dr John J Milledge (Algal Biotechnology Research Fellow)
- World population is growing
- Fresh water, land and fossil fuel are finite
- Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is increasing
- Oceans cover 72% of the Earth's surface

Are seaweeds grown using sunlight, salt water and CO2 the basis of a sustainable future for food, fuel and pharmaceuticals?

Between a ‘rock’ and a hard place – Mineralisation of CO2 as a Carbon Capture and Utilisation Strategy

Colin Hills (Speaker)
Anthropogenic CO2 emissions can be used as a feedstock to make everyday materials. With potential to divert Gt CO2 from the atmosphere, Professor Hills will discuss pioneering work on the manufacture of construction materials from mineralised CO2.
