Ageing of the immune cells

Sepehr (Sepi) Qooja (Doctoral Researcher)
This talk explores the relationship between inflammation, exercise, and the ageing immune system, highlighting their interconnected effects on health and longevity.

The discussion will examine what inflammation is and how it responds to physical activity, alongside an exploration of how the immune system changes with age. By investigating the links between inflammation, ageing, and the role of exercise, we’ll uncover how movement can influence immune function and overall well-being over time.

Join us as we dive into the science of inflammation and ageing, and discover how exercise plays a key role in maintaining a healthy immune system.

Simplified Tai Chi for Stronger Ankles

Qian Qian (Doctoral Researcher)
This talk explores the prevalence of ankle sprains and the risk of chronic ankle instability, which affects up to 70% of individuals through recurring pain, weakness, and limited mobility.

The discussion will examine how Tai Chi, a traditional Chinese martial art, can support ankle rehabilitation by engaging full-body movement patterns that strengthen and stabilize the ankles. While traditional Tai Chi consists of 108 movements, we have developed a specialized 16-form routine designed specifically to improve ankle function.

Join us to discover how this accessible, equipment-free training program can offer an affordable and effective approach to ankle recovery, helping more people regain strength and mobility.

Muscle and tendon adaptations to resistance training

Thomas Balshaw (Lecturer)
This talk explores how muscle and tendinous tissue generate and transmit force while adapting to environmental factors such as mechanical loading and nutrition.

The discussion will examine how injuries, conditions, and diseases throughout life can lead to periods of reduced movement or complete immobilization, impacting muscle function. By understanding the role of resistance training in rehabilitation, we’ll uncover how specific training variables influence recovery and musculotendinous adaptations.

Join us as we explore how nutritional supplementation, alongside resistance training, can enhance muscle strength and size, offering a powerful tool against the effects of mechanical unloading.
