What are the benefits of VR-based Serious Games bring to children with ASD?
Xinbo Wu
(Doctoral Researcher)
This talk explores the challenges children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) face in developing motor skills and the potential of virtual reality (VR)-based interventions to support their progress.
The discussion will examine findings from a randomized controlled trial with 40 children in a special education school in China, comparing the effects of a 12-week VR-based serious game program to traditional physical education. Results revealed that VR interventions led to significantly greater improvements in locomotor and object control skills.
Join us as we explore how VR can serve as an innovative tool for motor skill development in special education, offering new possibilities for enhancing physical activity interventions for children with ASD.

Exploring skill breakdown from a contextual behaviour science perspective
Tanuj Kohli
(Doctoral Researcher)
This talk explores the growing field of behavioral psychology and its relationship with cognitive processes, particularly in the study of paradoxical performances.
The discussion will examine how research in this area has often been conducted in isolation, focusing on performance variables objectively rather than considering the complex interactions between mind and body. By exploring parallel and bottom-up processes—some rooted in history, others shaped by future expectations—we’ll uncover the broader contextual factors that influence paradoxical performances.
Join us as we investigate a more integrated approach to understanding human performance, moving beyond traditional cognitive explanations.

Time Warps: How time stops us exercising and what we can do about it.
Ian Taylor
(Professor)
This talk explores the challenge of maintaining an exercise routine, as seen in the millions of New Year’s resolutions that fade after just a few weeks.
The discussion will examine how our perception of time is deeply woven into our goals and ambitions, often making it difficult to sustain long-term fitness habits. By shifting our mindset and removing time-driven pressures from our motives, we’ll uncover new ways to build a lasting and meaningful approach to a healthier lifestyle.
Join us as we explore strategies for making exercise a sustainable part of daily life, free from the limitations of short-term resolutions.
