Relapsed childhood brain tumours, which come back after using our best upfront treatments, are sadly incurable. Tonight, we will explore different ways to uncover the unique biological drivers of relapsed childhood brain tumours. These biological drivers are difficult to find, akin to looking for a needle in a haystack. Once found, can we harness the power of this precious needle? The Emperor of Maladies: Is this the end of cancer?

The coming years will see a revolution in cancer biology and treatment. It has already begun. For some cancers, it is now commonplace to use the immune system to fight tumours, but the first personalised cancer vaccines are now beginning to succeed. MRNA vaccines (of COVID fame) have been used to attack one of the most deadly cancers, pancreatic. Only half of a small number of patients responded... but it worked. It. Worked. Is vaccinating patients against their own cancers going to finally cure the ‘Emperor of Maladies’?
