Suicide and self-harm are major public health concerns: indeed, suicide is the leading cause of death of men in mid-life. Prof. O’Connor will explore the complex set of factors that lead to suicidal thinking and behaviour. He will focus on the psychology of suicide and aim to challenge some of the myths surrounding it.

Occupational identity forms are defined as our identities at work. What happens when we experience trauma in the workplace ? And how does that impact our occupational identity and who are in general? Military psychologist and academic Dr Kevin Wilson-Smith will explore a number of case studies of work related trauma and its impact on identity. It will draw on military example of returning from war and healthcare examples of traumatic loss of life how individuals to cope with the impact of trauma.
