Identifying dementia using speech and AI
Madhu Pahar
(Researcher, Computer Science)
Dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, has no cure, but spotting it early can make a real difference. Did you know that the way we speak can reveal early warning signs? Here, we introduce CognoSpeak, an innovative online project where people simply talk to a virtual assistant. By analysing hundreds of such participants' conversational speech, our approach demonstrates how AI can accurately identify individuals living with dementia, and potentially save time and financial resources of the NHS in the UK.
Rewired: Can brain stimulation hack our behaviour?
Alekhya Mandali
(Researcher, Psychology)
Ever wondered if we could zap our way to better habits? Join us to explore how gentle electrical pulses to the brain might change how we act, think, and feel - sometimes instantly. We'll uncover the science behind brain stimulation, from targeting specific brain regions to tweaking our decision-making. No neuroscience expertise required - just bring your curiosity!
Level Up: How video games actually shape our minds
Eleanor Hyde
(Postgraduate Researcher, Psychology)
We’ve all heard the warnings that video games are bad for us, but what does the science actually say? Join us as we debunk common myths and reveal the hidden benefits of playing your favourite game. We'll discover how gaming can speed up your reactions, boost your focus, and help you navigate the world with ease.
